- Dancing Accordeons: Danças Ocultas
- exciting sounds from Portugal
Christian Moll had the great pleasure to attend the Portugal special evening
at the 2nd Tilburg (Netherlands) International Folk Festival in january 2001,
discovering there Danças Ocultas, a very special band: their music is breathtaking,
they play with lots of passion. Announced in the programme with the line up
of 4 Concertinas, he had a little surprise, as things were different...
Portugal - folk band with four accordeons
- A couple more years: Ronnie Drew & Eleanor
Shanley
The new album from Ronnie Drew and Eleanor Shanley A Couple More Years is
doing nicely thank you, not only is it getting good airplay in Ireland it
is selling well too. Seán Laffey met the duo before their gig in the recently
opened Excel Theatre in Tipperary.
Ireland - two folk legends playing as duo
- Always Yellow! Jaune Toujours
Jaune Toujours are definitely one of the most exciting bands on the New Folk
Scene in Europe. For their debut album "Brusk" the band got raving reviews,
being voted by FolkWorld’s editors Best CD of 2000, and by FolkWorld’s readers
as second best CD of 2000. So what is this band about? FolkWorld had an e-mail
chat with Piet Maris, the singer, composer and accordionist of the band.
Belgium - Most extraordinary Folk-Brass-Jazz-Musette-Rock-etc. music
- Be ready for the fairy-tale music of Within
temptation
One of the major attractions of the Folkwoods festival in August should have
been a Dutch group called "Within Temptation". Their appearance at this folk
festival may seem strange because it was only last year that they played at
the biggest metal festival in Europe: Dynamo Open Air. After reading three
raving reviews of their second CD, Eelco Schilder simply had to buy their
cd and immediately fell in love with their strange, fairy-like music.

- Stockholm's Stallet
In the Scanfolk series' part IV, Michael Moll reports about spring in Stockholm,

- T:-)M's Night Shift: FolkWorld Exploring
the Written World of Music
At the bedside table there's another couple of books. Big books, small books,
a jiggling pillar bound to be pulled down by gravity. Song sheets and instrument
tutors are spread across the floor, tunes waiting to be incorporated into
the repertoire. Who writes all that stuff? Who publishes? Who prints? Who
buys? Who reads? Who cares? Who can tell? - O.k. let us read! Read by Walkin'

- Dervish, ten years on the road
After ten successful years in the music industry Dervish are now regarded
as one of the premier ambassadors of Irish music. Sean Laffey met three of

out to Spain.

- On the Music Island: ‚Les Traversées
Tatihou - Musiques du lage'
A very special event. Les Traversées Tatihou is of course not the biggest
or best known festival in Europe, but sometimes the smaller festivals are
much more interesting and exciting. Christian Moll came back being impressed
of this festival on an island with tidal way conncection in a remote place
of Normandy. Not only plenty of great music, but also a lot of unique atmosphere
and surroundings.
France - Special Festival with European Folk Music
- Hoven Droven, Garmarna & Hildegard von
Bingen
Swedish folkrock a little bit unplugged. It is always an experience
to see those bands you know from playing in your home country playing in their
own country. Michael Moll was glad to see in April both concerts of Hoven
Droven and Garmarna, probably the two best know Swedish folk bands, in Stockholm.
Sweden - Folkrock
- Scandinavian Accordeons with a huge
difference: Kimmo Pohjonen, Mats Edén
The accordeon was for a long time rather absent in the Folk Music scene of
Scandinavia. It was hated by a lot of folk musicians and by folk audiences.
This has changed during the last 20 years. In May Michael Moll visited two
concert with just one accordeon player on stage; yet the difference could
not be bigger: The Finnish crazy accordeon star Kimmo Pohjonen and the Swedish
accordeonist and fiddle player Mats Edén.
