The tenth Nordic music festival "Viru Folk" celebrates the 100th jubilee birthday of Finland.

On August 11-13, 2017 Viru Folk, folk and the world music festival, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Finland in a gorgeous captain village Käsmu in Lahemaa National Park, Estonia. This time the Nordic music festival will focus on the Finnish music and culture as a large number of well-known Finnish musicians will perform there in addition to Estonian musicians.

The summer idyll of the captain village, relaxing festival atmosphere and good music can be enjoyed at the village streets edged with handicraft and eating places, in the home yards of the local people, at six different stages, at the beach or even when rowing an ancient Viking boat in Käsmu Bay.

As is suitable for a whole family festival, the guests of all ages and interests will find something interesting to do during the festival days in Käsmu on August 11-13. The children will be entertained by Moomintroll from Naantali's Moominworld, the metal-music fans can enjoy a concert by Finntroll late on Saturday evening, tango lovers are offered beautiful moments by Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha, and, for the thousands of contemporary folk music enjoyers, Värttinä from Karjala is present after an eight-year gap.

Finnish younger generation folk music is represented by Topi Saha, Hermanni Turkki and Whale & The Village, sharp musical experiences are offered by Pekko Käppi & K:H:L:L, Wimme Saari & Tapani Rinne, and the festival culminates with the wonderful Kimmo Pohjonen, who takes the stage with his daughters this time around.

Estonian music is represented at the tenth Viru Folk by the heavy artillery of our folk music, including Mari Kalkun, who became the first Estonian to be nominated for a Finnish music award this year, with her ensemble Runorun, Mari Jürjens, performing at the festival with her band for the first time, and Untsakad, who are celebrating their 25th birthday. The performers list also includes Pantokraator, Mick Pedaja, Indigolapsed, Angus, this year's youth band competition winner The Notes and many others.
